From Erin Green, Principal
Dear Covington Parents and Community Members:
Lawrence Hall of Science Night a Success!
Tuesday night our Multi purpose Room was booming with excitement and fire, literally! Students and adults both had an amazing time. Below are a few comments from students about the evening:
"It was really fun and my three year old brother loved it too! The teacher was energetic and caught the audience's attention." Mariya, 6th grade
"It was really awesome and I liked it. It was really funny and he had great movements to go with the vocabulary words. It wasn't boring; Randall made learning science really fun!" Jocelyn, 4th grade
"It was really fun; the activities were awesome!" Shayla, 4th grade
“Amazing,” Makaila, 1st grade
"It was awesome; I liked all of the explosions!" Patrick, 6th grade
From the comments students shared, the assembly format last night was definitely a hit! Thank you again, to our very generous PTA and Ingrid Choong, for heading up and coordinating the entire event. We appreciate our PTA!
LASD Film Festival Coming to Covington in March
As I have been walking the halls the last fewweeks, it has been so exciting to see our students engaged in creating films for the LASD Film Festival. Students have been writing, creating and editing films, some have been participating with their classes and some students have been creating films to submit independently. What creativity our Covington students demonstrate every day! A few examples of films I had the privilege of viewing were: "How to Bake Cake Pops," “The Quest for Finding the Perfect Shoe,” "How to Add Fractions", a film about the Cornerstone literature this year and a collaborative two classroom video on Recycling. Mark your calendars for March 29th from 4-6 pm when all of LASD will be convening at Covington for the 2nd annual Film Festival!
Ilearn & Professional Development
This week our 1st-4th grade teachers have been participating in an all-day Innovative Strategies Training. The training was held at Covington. Our teachers had the opportunity to collaborate and learn with other teachers across the district. Our staff is continuously learning and sharing. Next week our 2nd and 3rd grade teachers will be participating in English Language Development Training.
Main Street Singers to Visit Covington
Tomorrow Los Altos High School's Main Street Singers will be performing in our Multi for our students at two different times: 12:45 & 1:15. It will be great to have Covington alumni oncampus sharing their musical talent with our student body!
Have a great rest of the week and thank you for your ongoing support.
Sincerely,
Erin S. Green

Investing in what we value- our children's education. Library, Music, PE, Class size reduction, Art, and Science- these are all critical to our children's education. What could be a better investment! Parents have generously invested $2 million dollars so far this year... but we need your help to raise $1 million more to reach our goal for the 12-13 school year. Please donate today- our goal is 100% participation at whatever level is right for your family. To learn more about the Los Altos Educational Foundation, please visit laefonline.net/
