Megan Scatena will be moving to San Carlos school district, to teach 4th grade and be closer to home. It was a difficult decision to leave Covington but one made in the best interest of her family. Heather Hlodan will be teaching in Sunnyvale School District, 1st grade. This move fulfills her career goal to teach in a Title I school. Jill Croft has been selected as one of 7 teachers in LASD to become a Instructional Support Teacher for Literacy. Her expertise in this field will be a huge benefit to the teachers of Almond. Jill will still be active in the Covington community as a parent. Jolene Welch has taken a year’s leave to spend more time with family, travel, and become immersed in STEM and science curriculum. She looks forward to returning to Covington after her leave. Lindsey Olmstead recently purchased a house in San Martin and has accepted a 2nd grade teaching position in Gilroy. With a new baby, the proximity to home was an important factor. Liz Castner (upper grade SDC) will be matriculating with her 3 sixth grade students to Blach, where she will teach the SDC class. Mackenzie Breining (primary SDC), who is expecting her first child very soon, has purchased a home in Gilroy and will seek a position closer to home. Dr. Louise Ross (school psychologist) will be pursuing opportunities outside of LASD. I want to thank all of the above teachers for their service and dedication to our students. Please join me in wishing them the best on their new endeavors. I look forward to sharing biographical information about incoming new staff in our next edition. Regards, Wade Spenader- Principal |
Field Day is Approaching! |
FIELD DAY 2017 is FRIDAY, JUNE 2nd! Now that the Junior Olympics are over, it's almost time for Field Day 2017! On Friday, June 2nd from 10:00 am- 12:00 pm, all Covington students will be participating in Field Day. Field Day is a fun filled event where all students participate in games (for example: bowling, "pin the nose on the coyote", seed spitting, etc.), face painting and a blow-up obstacle course. We have food, music, lots of water, and a "6th grade vs teachers" volleyball game. If you haven't had much of a chance to volunteer this year, this is the event for you! We need parent volunteers at each game, for face painting, and for serving snacks. We need your help to make it a success. Volunteer hours are from 9:30 to noon. Please sign up on this Google doc. We need at least two parents from each class to help!! Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you! Louanne Gonzalez (louannegonzalez@gmail.com) |
