The Khan Academy was originally launched as a way to provided tutorial support for nieces and nephews of the founder. It has morphed into a free, open source project recognized by the Gates Foundation with a mission of providing a world-class education. The Academy works with Los Altos School District and specifically Covington, to improve the quality of their content with student feed-back. With over 1700 lessons in science, math and social sciences, the Khan Academy materials are good resource for both students and their parents.
Common Sense Media
Sixth graders work with faculty and staff to understand what it means to be a good digital citizen. Leveraging the content from this resource, the students explore the implications and appropriate uses of texting and social media sites with an emphasis on safety, security and appropriate interaction. Parents can learn how to reinforce the messages with tools from this website.
